City of Augsburg

With a population of approximately 300,000, Augsburg is not only the economic hub of Bavarian Swabia. Home to a state theater, a university, a college, a university hospital, numerous research institutes, and much more, the city also plays a pioneering role in fields such as education, research, and culture. This is also underscored by the designation of Augsburg’s water management system as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019. Rarely can one experience the intricate interplay of innovative spirit and technical mastery so impressively in a single location over a span of eight centuries through a water system as in Augsburg. Innovation and resource efficiency are simply a tradition in Augsburg. In Augsburg, promising fields of expertise—including fiber composite technology, mechatronics and automation, aerospace, information and communication technology, and environmental technology—have emerged from existing structures, know-how, and networks. The concentration and interconnection of these areas of expertise in close geographical proximity reinforce the innovative successes surrounding the theme of resource efficiency.
