Timber Industry

The timber industry is an important and diverse sector in the Munich metropolitan region, covering the entire value chain—from forestry and the wood-processing industry to research and training—and is underpinned by regional expertise and a commitment to sustainability.

The forestry and timber industry is one of the most important sectors in the Munich metropolitan region from both an economic and socio-political perspective. In addition to forestry, the woodworking and wood-processing industries, the pulp and paper industry, the artisanal woodworking sector, and the energy wood sector, it also includes major consumers of paper—such as printing companies and publishers—as well as the trade in this raw material.

Rosenheim is home to internationally active companies in the timber industry, numerous training and information opportunities on the subject of wood, and venues for specialized conferences and congresses in the field of wood technology. In addition to Rosenheim University of Applied Sciences, which offers programs in wood technology and wood business management, the Scientific Wood, Information, and Technology Center is also located here.
