Environmental technology
In the Munich metropolitan region, the main areas of focus in environmental technology are water and wastewater treatment, air pollution control, waste and recycling management, and energy generation from solar, hydro, biomass, and geothermal sources.
As an official environmental competence center in Bavaria, the Augsburg region—with around 300 companies—is a leading location for the development of environmental technologies in Germany and is characterized by an exceptional concentration of expertise. It is no coincidence that the Competence Center for the Environment (KUMAS), the Bavarian network for growing environmental expertise, is based in Augsburg as the point of contact for the entire state.
Other areas of expertise include:
environmental education
the sciences of environmental economics and a sustainable economy
environmental medicine and biotechnology
the renewable energy sector
