The Munich metropolitan region is home to several major global players, including Airbus Group, Airbus Defense & Space, Airbus Helicopters, MTU Aero Engines, and Premium Aerotec. The European Union’s Galileo project is the third major European project in the industry, alongside Airbus in the aircraft market and Ariane in the space sector.  

The Munich metropolitan region boasts an excellent research infrastructure in the aerospace sector, thanks to the German Aerospace Center (DLR), the European Southern Observatory, and the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics, all of which are located in the region.
